"An Evening of Southwest Music" at Ganondagan State Historic Site Wednesday 17 August 2016

Seneca Art & Culture Center
Wednesday 17 August 2016
doors open 6:30 pm
Tickets at the door or online

$10 general; $7 Friends of Ganondagan members

This must-see concert is a first-ever performance at Ganondagan by duo singer-songwriter Shelley Morningsong (N. Cheyenne/ Dutch) and Fabian Fontenelle (Zuni/Omaha). They are on a limited tour schedule, so seeing them at Ganondagan is a rare opportunity!

With a voice compared to Buffy Sainte-Marie and Bonnie Raitt, Morningsong and partner Fontenelle bring traditionally influenced and contemporary songs, Native American flute, storytelling, and dancing, including the breathtaking Zuni Eagle Dance performed by Fontenelle, an original member of the American Indian Dance Theatre.

Be in awe as Fontenelle depicts a profound imagery of a "Spirit World" with the spoken word in his fluent Zuni.

The Seneca Art & Culture Center at Ganondagan is located at 7000 County Road 41 in Victor, NY.

Finger Lakes Flute Circle Meeting Tuesday 9 August 2016

The Finger Lakes Flute Circle will meet Tuesday 9 August 2016, 6:30 pm, in the Arts and Crafts Room this month (rather than the Conference Room) at the Brookside School (Brighton Parks & Recreation), 1680 S Winton Rd, Rochester, NY 14618, entrance on Winton Rd, south of Westfall Rd. The official address, 220 Idlewood Rd, will take you through neighborhood streets to the alternate entrance on the other side of the building.

If you are completely new to the Native American flute, you are very much welcome and encouraged to come and learn! No prior experience or preparation is necessary. Most of the members of the group had zero experience playing Native flute, and some even no musical experience. It's very easy to learn to play. No written music required. We just play the flute "from the heart" and make beautiful music.

There will be beginner flutes available to try out. We'll have a great time making music with Native American flutes, hand percussion, and drums.

$5 contribution is suggested to help with MeetUp.com and room rental costs.

All comers of all experience levels are welcome, and we will make beautiful music together. We hope to see you there!
