The Finger Lakes Flute Circle will be meeting WEDNESDAY, 14 June 2017, 6:30 pm, in the Conference Room at the Brookside School (Brighton Parks & Recreation), 1680 S Winton Rd, Rochester, NY 14618, entrance on Winton Rd, south of Westfall Rd. We are now meeting on (mostly) the second Wednesday of the month, in response to requests from flute circle members. (Next month we're meeting Tuesday July 11 due to a schedule conflict.)

This meeting we're going to have fun trying out the didgeridoo. We'll have some to try out, but if you have one, please bring it!

Beginners are encouraged to visit! If you are new to the Native American flute, please join us! The Native American flute is very easy to learn to play. No prior experience or preparation is necessary. No written music required. We play the flute "from the heart" and make beautiful music.

There will also be beginner flutes available to try out. We'll have a great time making music with Native American flutes, hand percussion, and drums.

$5 contribution is suggested to help with MeetUp.com and room rental costs.

All comers of all experience levels are welcome. We will make beautiful music together, in addition to interesting sounds on the didgeridoo. We hope to see you there!

Shakuhachi Master Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin Passed Away

I was very sad to learn today via Facebook of the death of shakuhachi master Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin. His friends and students began posting news of his death since yesterday.

He was my teacher and sensei in Shakuhachi traditional bamboo end-blown flute, and it was wonderful, awesome, and challenging learning to play from a Shakuhachi master and legend.

He will be greatly missed, and such a great loss to the Shakuhachi world, particularly to his many students and friends in New York state and DC.
