"An Evening of Southwest Music" at Ganondagan State Historic Site Wednesday 17 August 2016

This must-see concert is a first-ever performance at Ganondagan by duo singer-songwriter Shelley Morningsong (N. Cheyenne/ Dutch) and Fabian Fontenelle (Zuni/Omaha). They are on a limited tour schedule, so seeing them at Ganondagan is a rare opportunity!

With a voice compared to Buffy Sainte-Marie and Bonnie Raitt, Morningsong and partner Fontenelle bring traditionally influenced and contemporary songs, Native American flute, storytelling, and dancing, including the breathtaking Zuni Eagle Dance performed by Fontenelle, an original member of the American Indian Dance Theatre.

Be in awe as Fontenelle depicts a profound imagery of a "Spirit World" with the spoken word in his fluent Zuni.

Finger Lakes Flute Circle

The Finger Lakes Flute Circle is a gathering of people interested in the Native American flute, to share talents and experiences through a supportive musical and educational exchange.

A flute circle can be helpful on many levels, enriching those who are exploring or growing an interest in the Native American flute, nourishing beginner Native flute players searching for support, and empowering experienced players to reach higher levels of skill and enjoyment.

The Native American flute is a wonderful instrument in its accessibility to beginners to quickly and readily make pleasant songs regardless of prior musical experience, and a powerful musical tool for musical and emotional expression and improvisation.

Directions

Brighton Parks & Recreation is located at the former Brookside School in the Town of Brighton. We usually meet in the Arts & Crafts Room. The entrance to the Brookside School is off Winton Road between Westfall Road and route 590. Look for the Brighton Parks & Recreation sign on the east side of Winton Road. A waypoint address placing you close to the Winton Road entrance to enter into Google Maps or Mapquest is 1680 S Winton Rd, Rochester, NY 14618. Alternatively, the official listed address, 220 Idlewood Road, will take you to the backside of the building.
